历史上的今天：世界上第一台工业机器人

看到现在世界上有这么多形形色色的机器人，你也许会问世界上第一台真正意义上机器人是谁发明的呢？发明第一台机器人的正是享有“机器人之父”美誉的恩格尔伯格先生。

恩格尔伯格是世界上最著名的机器人专家之一，1958年他建立了Unimation公司，利用乔治·德沃尔（George Devol）所授权的专利技术，于1959年研制出了世界上第一台工业机器人，他对创建机器人工业作出了杰出的贡献。1983年，就在工业机器人销售日渐火爆的时候，恩格尔伯格和他的同事们毅然将Unimation公司买给了西屋公司，并创建了TRC公司，开始研制服务机器人。

恩格尔伯格认为，服务机器人与人们生活密切相关，服务机器人的应用将不断改善人们的生活质量，这也正是人们所追求的目标。一旦服务机器人像其它机电产品一样被人们所接受，走进千家万户，其市场将不可限量。

恩格尔伯格创建的TRC公司第一个服务机器人产品是医院用的“护士助手”机器人，它于1985年开始研制，1990年开始出售，目前已在世界各国几十家医院投入使用。“护士助手”除了出售外，还出租。由于“护士助手”的市场前景看好，现已成立了“护士助手”机器人公司，恩格尔伯格任主席。

2015年12月1日病逝于家中。
